I'm proud to announce the release of Silvrback 2.0! There are numerous changes to the whole platform. I'd like to thank all of the existing Silvrback users out there who have been giving me valuable feedback.
Let me show you what's new with 2.0.
The choice between two major UI schemes: Alpha Gorilla and Classic Silvrback. These aren't called themes because they are more than themes. A UI scheme changes both your front-end blog and the back-end editing platform (and some other pages like your bio admin). I believe the writing process and UX should be as tightly coupled to the final product as possible, so Silvrback will never use the typical blog approach of merely slapping skins onto the front-end.
Picture of the Alpha Gorilla editor below. The writing process mirrors the final product.
A beautiful new homepage with full-page cover photo support
Build your audience and your brand. Your homepage header area allows for a big profile image, as well as a bio sentence with your Twitter handle automatically appended. View my homepage
You also have the ability to darken your cover photo for enhanced text readability. An image credit can be added to attribute the photographer.
Your homepage has improved blog navigation. Your menu items are front and center in your header, and they are also included in every footer. You can also add a link to a personal website to market your services or products.
Massive color customization. Silvrback is for color lovers
Cycle through beautiful colors chosen from top palettes on colourlovers.com for your article backgrounds. Alternatively, you can upload a photo to use as eye candy for your cover area.
Having the option to choose a nice color gets rid of the annoyance of searching for a cover image that looks good.
Moreover, you can also select one of these solid colors for your homepage background and your admin article dashboard.
Your fans can subscribe to be notified by email whenever your publish a new article. They can unsubscribe at any time.
You have full ownership of the data. Your subscribers' emails are listed on your admin "Audience" page.
Video and other iframe embeds
Include YouTube videos, JsFiddle code embeds, and Vimeo media in your blog posts. Just copy and past the embed code into the editor.
A sleek and minimal admin UI
You can change the background color of your articles dashboard until it is perfect for you and your thoughts.
The new UI also includes an improved slide-out menu bar with a flat design. This new menu bar has also been added to Classic Silvrback blogs.
Better comments and fonts
Your Disqus comments are tucked away in a slide-out drawer to remove bloat from your blog. Your comment count is listed at the bottom of the post.
Typekit font changes will ensure that your text will render beautifully on any device.
New syntax highlighting themes
Only relevant to programmers. Monokai theme shown below.
@article = Article.new(params[:article])
@article.user_id = current_user.id
flash[:success] = "Your draft has been saved"
I hope everyone likes the changes in 2.0. I welcome any feedback and feature requests. Also, you can connect with me on Twitter @3solarmasses.
